Varsity is located on route to the Cathedral and Castle from the City’s Market Square, right in the heart of Durham’s historic centre. We have a stunning outside terrace with commanding views over the east side of the City, overlooking the River Wear and the 14th Century Elvet Bridge.

We have the full spectrum of customers at Varsity, with the bar being enjoyed by students, office workers, young couples and large groups of circuit drinkers alike.

The facilities inside our 400 year old building include two bars (one of which is available for private hire) and four totally unique eating and drinking areas. Our seating areas range from booths and large tables for small groups to sofas, as well as cosy corner-tables for those seeking a more intimate conversation.

We offer a comprehensive menu to our customers seven days a week, Sunday 12pm-9pm, Monday to Saturday 11am-9pm. You can enjoy anything from buckets to jackets, dirty dog bowls to delicious desserts !!

Varsity Durham features Sky Sports & ESPN on two big screens, five plasmas and a further seven TV screens. We also have two sky boxes so that we can try to make sure you never miss an important match !
